What Your Sidebar Actually Needs- A Clutter Free Life

A blog's sidebar can often get really cluttered with things that don't actually benefit your blog at all, in fact, they could be disadvantaging it.

In this series, A Clutter Free Life, I will be helping you to declutter and organize your home, blog and soul. A Clutter Free Life will focus on fashion, beauty, blogging and health, all important aspects of your life. Do these sound familiar? That's because these are Beauty Spot's core ideas and focus points.

There will be more content and exclusive posts in my Resource Library that you can get access to below. There you will also find my eBook, content upgrades, discount codes and more. It's full of amazing goodies and, the best part, it's FREE! I will be posting 3 A Clutter Free Life posts on the blog then another 3 to the Resource Library, click below to get access to these.

I know, I know, you are often told that the more information you give on your homepage the better, right? Wrong. This informations needs to be relevant and benefit the reader 1 of 2 ways.
The first way is to call for the viewer to do something. That could be anything from buy your book to follow you on Instagram.
The second way is inform them about yourself or your brand.

Below are examples of what a good, effective sidebar would include:
  • About Me Paragraph
  • Social Media Follow Icons
  • Featured/Popular Post/s
  • Labels (tags or categories)
  • Subscriber Form
  • Sign Up Incentive Promotion
Notice how all these things give benefit to your reader in some way. Having a relevant sidebar can also help to grow your interaction rates. People will want to interact and support you if they like your blog and it's content.

Below are examples of what a bad, cluttered sidebar would include:

  • Ads and salesy promotions
  • Shop Widgets (not your shop though)
  • Unorganised archives/popular posts
The list for what not to have is a lot shorter, but I could have put things like not having social media follow icons but that's a bit repetitive and you get the gist.

The main thing I want you to get out of this post is to keep your sidebar clean, uncluttered, organised, and relevant. Your sidebar is one of the first things that your viewers will see so make a good, no, great first impression.
