The Importance of Beauty Sleep

Author: Jenny Thompson

Today I have got a very special post that is a must read for everyone. This guest post by Best Mattress Reviews teaches you all about how important getting a good night's sleep really is.

Beauty sleep isn't a myth. Good sleep helps you better maintain fitness, health, and protect your skin from premature aging. It gives your body, including your skin, a chance to regenerate and repair itself every night and avoid taking on a tired appearance. And a good night's sleep can make you look more attractive and youthful.

When you sleep, your body produces human growth hormones, which helps to repair and restore your body, maintaining healthy tissue. Hormones that regulate stress and weight loss or gain are balanced properly. During non-REM sleep, higher levels of cell division and regeneration are experienced, increasing cell production and slower breakdown of proteins, which helps you look and stay youthful. Each night around 2 a.m., skin cell regeneration peaks for the day. This happens whether you're asleep or not. But you should be asleep while this process is happening, as it supports better cell regeneration.

Sleeping can relieve wrinkles, even if it's only temporarily. When you sleep, you change the force of gravity on your face. And your skin produces more moisture during sleep, which can smooth out wrinkles and act as a natural moisturizer.

When you don't get enough sleep, your body releases more cortisol, a stress hormone that can lead to weight gain, eczema, and hair loss. Stress from sleep deprivation can harm the integrity of the skin's collagen, and lead to conditions including alopecia, psoriasis, and dermatitis.

Sleep-deprived people typically have more redness in their eyes, pale skin, and droopier features than well-rested people. Studies have shown that objective observers see sleep-deprived people as less healthy, more tired, and less attractive than those who are well-rested.

Effective beauty sleep can be supported with a healthy sleep environment and bedding, an adequate and consistent sleep schedule, and healthy sleep hygiene, including a regular bedtime routine.

I hope you enjoyed this article and hopefully learnt something, I know I did.
